Why Faith Matters
Faith provides a sense of purpose and direction. When we have faith in God, we believe that there is a destiny God has in store for our lives. As long as we continue to believe and have faith in verses like Romans 8:28 (ESV) “And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good,[a] for those who are called according to his purpose.”
and Psalms 37:23 (ESV) “The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in His way”, they can help us to pursue whatever it is that God has put into our hearts. This means that even when we stray off course or don’t have the strength to continue. As long as we keep believing that God Almighty is on our side He will bring us to victory in the end.
Think about Moses. He was told that he would be the vindicator of the Israelites. And that he would lead them to a land flowing with milk and honey. He had all of this promise, but it all went wrong along the way. He made a mistake and killed an Egyptian man, and had to flee for his life, leaving behind his family and going into the desert. During those 40 years that Moses was in the desert, he must have gotten discouraged. He must have felt like he ruined his chances of saving his people, and now would just have to make ends meet as a shepherd. But God still had a plan for Moses. When Moses stumbled upon the burning bush, God told him he would help him accomplish his destiny and free the Israelites. It was at this point Moses had a decision to make. Would he have faith in God’s plan and God’s timing, or settle for what he had? Thankfully, Moses made the right choice, and now years later we still commemorate the fantastic work he did in freeing the people of Jesus Christ.
Like Moses, we make mistakes or try to work things out by ourselves. But if we continue to have faith in the omnipotent and omniscient God, then we can set ourselves up for success, even when we feel like a failure.
