Dig That Extra Foot
I once heard a story about a miner who was mining for rubies. After a long week of mining with a passion, and working as hard as he could. Super excited to obtain a shining red gem he started to slow down. He realized that despite all of his work, it wasn’t going anywhere. Finally, he gave up and stopped digging after making a 29-foot hole.
A few days later, one of his friends decided to try his luck at the hole. The Miner’s friend dug one foot deeper into the hole, and to his surprise, found a large number of rubies. So much that he would be rich for the rest of his life. When the Miner found out, he was appalled. If he had dug one more foot, he would have accomplished all that he worked towards.
Many times in life, we are like this miner. We do our best to accomplish our passions. We work hard day in and day out to achieve our dreams. But after a while, when nothing seems to be working out. When we start to see that nothing much is changing, we begin to give up. Maybe you started to take that course to finally learn how to play the violin, but after hours of practicing, you feel like it’s impossible for you to learn. Or maybe you finally started that business, but after months of it going nowhere, you’re finally ready to scrap the whole thing.
Well, I have words of encouragement for you today: Dig that extra foot. Move farther into whatever it is you were once passionate about. Reach a little farther, push a little harder, stretch a little higher, and eventually, you’ll soar. It’s never too late to dig that extra foot because who knows! A breakthrough might be around the corner. Have a great day!
